The Quilt · 2012

“Kathryn Scheldt’s Alabama roots frequently emerge in the lyrics of her songs. It was an area that bred such legends as Hank Williams, W. C. Handy and Emmylou Harris and these diverse figures, among others, have contributed to the music of this singer/songwriter, whether intentionally or subconsciously.
The Quilt is Kathryn Scheldt’s sixth album and the first to give a 100% nod to her Alabama background. It is also her most accomplished work and most varied, with her poignant songs reflecting both personal and historic themes while the music cuts across country, folk and blues, a hybrid best indexed as Americana. Recorded in Nashville, and produced by Rick Hirsch, this ten track collection of original songs (the exception being Hank Williams’ I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry) also provides several opportunities for the superior session musicians to display their own talents in addition to accompanying Ms. Scheldt’s emotive vocals.”

“Kathryn has a beautiful voice, smooth and rich, and her delivery of the songs–some of which she wrote– is pleasing and satisfying. I play the album when I am reading or working or when I just feel like sitting and relaxing.”
